Judit Abraham

Judit Abraham was born in Transylvania (Romania), but the road took her in 1994 to Budapest, where she now also lives. With a large interest spectrum, that spreads from Hungarian folklore to Indian clasical culture, Judit is an artist with a strong opening towards tradition, devoted to promoting it. Ever since the year 2003, she has been holding  dance classes and workshops, also in a large number of styles, trying to bring closer to youngsters the rural culture, almost forgotten in our days.

This passion determins her to travel in various villages, that still guard traditions, where she collects authentic motifs, as for instance in Ghimes and in Moldavia. She learns folk music of Ghimes and performes for several years with late János Zerkula, Transylvanian fiddle player, a musical project that resulted in numerous concerts both in the country as well as abroad (Austria, Germany, Holland, Russia, France). She plays Hungarian folk music with Hungarian artists as well with Szigony band  and Mihály Dresch. Moreover, the results of this collaboration have landed on a record, Zerkula és a Szigony zenekar, and were also included in the movie The Vagabond, directed by Szomjas György.

In 2003, Judit wins the competition The Young Artist of Folk Art.

The same interest for the authentic determins Judit to study South-Indian carnatic music, yoga and Sanscrit. In 2009-2010, the artist travels to India, where she learns classical music and dance in Madras, and later on folk dance in Rajasthan. Here she finds the opportunity to study the rural culture of a music community in the Thar desert of Langa & Kalbeliya khast. The experience in these communities resulted into many video, sound and photographic materials.

In 2010 she toured throughout Hungary, France and India as a member of Rangila Langa Group from Rajasthan, in 2011 she has collaborated with Rajasthani Dil Mastana Group for tours and workshops in Hungary and Spain. in 2013 organized an Indian classical vocal workshop 'Sa Re ga Ma' with Indian artist: Kishore Kumar.

   Ábrahám Judit

    Születt Erdélyben, (Románia), 1989-1994 között a székelyudvarhelyi Benedek Elek Tanítóképző óvónő-tanítónő szakos diákja. 1994 óta él Budapesten.

            1992 óta jár Gyimesbe, moldvai csángó falvakba népzenét, néptáncot tanulni, illetve gyűjteni.

            1994-2000 között Kerényi Róbert, ill. Sára Ferenc által szervezett moldvai-, és gyimesi csángó zenészek és táncosok magyarországi fellépéseit segíti, valamint a Marczibányi Téri Guzsalyas táncházakban gyimesi zenét játszik gardonyon. az egykori Zerkula János, erdélyi prímás, valamint Kerényi Róbert, alkalomadtán Dresch Mihály kíséretében. Ezt a táncházas időszakot örökíti Szomjas Gyyörgy: Vagabond c. filmje, melynek egyik szereplője, Juli néven.

2003- Népművészet Ifjú Mestere díjat kap Ebben az évben kezdi el a moldvai csángó tánckurzust: “Eleven ördög” néven, ahol moldvai csángó táncokat, énekeket tanít, valamint a csángók kultúráját, hiedelemvilágát mutatja be gyűjtött felvételek alapján. A kurzus célja: átfogó képet kapni a régi falusi életszemléletről, néhány elemét újra elevenné tenni. A kurzusra gyakorta hív moldvai csángó vendégeket, a hitelesebb tanulás céljából. Később a tanítási repertoár bővül, teret kapnak a cigány táncok, ugyancsak cigány vendég-művészek részvételével, majd a radzsasztáni néptáncok.

      2000-óta érdeklődése fokozottabban kiterjed az indiai kultúra irányába. Budapestre látogató, illetve Budapesten élő indiai mesterektől tanul dél-indiai klasszikus táncot:

-       Bharatanatyamot- Anuradha Shinde vezetésével;

-       dél-indiai klasszikus éneket: Vaidya Vaidyanathan énekestől;

-       yogát és szanszkrit nyelvet Dr. Uma Shankar Upadhyay vezetésével.

2009-ben utazik először Indiába, ahol a megkezdett művészeti tanulmányokat folytatja, először a dél-indiai Chennaiba megy, majd az észak-indiai langa zenészek meghívására Radzsasztánba utazik. A sivatagi langa, kálbéliya és manghaniar zenész-táncos közösségek zenéjét, táncát gyűjti, ill. tanulmányozza.
